Marrakech & Essaouira
5 Day Trip

Marrakech – The gateway to the desert, the meeting and marketplace of African, Berber and Arab Morocco.  A city of tranquillity and throbbing intensity.  The city’s red pise (dried mud) walls rise from the red earth, glowing in the late afternoon sun; the vast souks fill with people late in the day; the drums of the Djemaa el Fna, the central square which is a circus of fortune tellers, musicians, story-tellers, snake charmers and food stalls.  On the edge of the Medina are the palmeries, olive groves and gardens which stretch to the snow capped High Atlas mountains in the distance.

Essaouira – 3 hours west of Marrakech, on the Atlantic Ocean lies the Port of Essaouira, once ruled by the Portuguese.   The bustling fishing harbour always full of activity and teeming with small boats.  The ramparts and former battlements of the city provide excellent views of the sweeping bay and islands.  A beautiful white washed medina, with small alleyways and narrow streets with blue shutters and brightly painted doors.  The fresh sea breezes provide a fine and refreshing contrast to the streets of Marrakech
